From Seed to Skillet: A Guide to Growing, Tending, Harvesting and Cooking Up Fresh, Healthy Food to Share with People You Love

Updated: Mar 15

I met Jimmy Williams (and son Logan Williams) tending their wares at the Hollywood Farmer’s Market on a Sunday morning in Hollywood, California under the Logan’s Gardens banner.   I kept returning again and again to buy seedlings and converse on just about everything, but especially the heirloom plants that is their specialty.  From Seed to Skillet, is in a way all about Gardening While Black.   Jimmy Williams learned about vegetable gardening from his grandmother, a South Carolina native from a traditional Gullah community.  He weaves that knowledge into a easy to navigate guide to planning your garden, tending and harvesting.  The icing on the cake are a collection of family recipes that connect us from Africa to South Carolina and beyond.
